Calling all Limers and C/O Shippers!
Here is my dilemma, briefly:

I'm writing a story that includes Casey and Olivia sharing their first Christmas. I picked Liv's gift to Casey a long time ago but haven't ever thought of what Casey would give Liv. Now, of course, I am pressed for time and cannot give the quest for the perfect gift the time it deserves.

I need your help!

I can't tell you what Liv is giving Casey except to say that it is a piece of jewelry that isn't a ring. All told, the item would probably range in retail price between $500 - $1000.

I don't want Casey's gift to Liv to be jewelry at all. But I am at a complete loss! What does Casey get Liv for their first Christmas together (Christmas 2006, btw)? Something with impact and that shows that she's serious about their relationship and that she knows Olivia's desires/dreams/loves/needs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am so not having any luck with this myself.

Thanks! I'll just be over here writing like the wind to get this finished today. Sometime. I hope.

::sheepish grin::

What about a book? Possibly a book of poetry? I immediately thought of "Warming Her Pearls" by Carol Ann Duffy and of the passage about marriage in Khalil Gibran's "the Prophet".

Thank you for the suggestion! I didn't end up using these in this story but I might use them in another one! Thanks for answering the Limer Call for Aid!

::blink:: Limer Aid?

Limerade? Sounds delicious. Is it made from real Limers? O_o

Funny, but I think while Limers will buy anything, they might just draw the line at that! LOL

what about a kickass cell phone? something i-phone-ish without being the iphone since that wasn't available in 06?

or maybe a weekend somewhere very nice, the two of them... and a calendar with the days marked as days off ?

a personalized baseball bat. *grin* (seriously, a gift card to have one made especially for her...weighted and balanced etc)

if they aren't living together... a set of keys to her place...

a piece of art -- either 3 dimensional or flat... a photo of casey's favorite place... a painting of the first place they kissed...

a new leather duster...

slinky lingerie... with a matching set for herself... LOL

I did use one of your ideas! Thanks for the key idea. I ended up using something Tiff suggested that actually foreshadows an upcoming story as the big gift but the key thing worked for the smaller gift so thanks!

Well, where there's life, there's hope, I suppose. I'm planning to start work on my first novel next year, though, so I don't know how much fanfic I will get done...

mm novel > fic for sure :)

any ideas of what kind? i'd have to say i'm pretty happy with how FS is going these days :)

Well, the first set will be post-apocalyptic political fantasy. I'm planning 3 sets of three that will eventually transform into high fantasy by the end... At least, I'm hoping... :)

whoo. hefty stuff. post apocalyptic. heh. boy does that put me in mind of a couple of unfinished things LOL it's one of my favorite genres... there's this song by Michael Longcor that i just love... it's called, 'only help you'll get' and it really captures the essence of that "broken frontier" that PA emblemizes

especially at the very end.

I just had a random thought. I'm glad Julie knits with colors other than gray.

As for gifts, I suck at figuring out what to get others, I doubt I'll come up with something for Casey to give. But I'll think on it.

Me. Too. O_O But that's just another proof that I use everything in my life in my writing. I just change it to make it more--in this case--suitable. ;)

And you did thin on it! And we figured out the connection and how it completely fixes that...well...you know... ;)

Oh. My. Goodness. I absolutely cannot WAIT for this story!!!

I agree completely with tulliolus. I think the gift should be a volume of love poetry.

***WARNING: Sappy, saccharine English major rambling follows!***

My choice would be a calfskin-bound, gold-leaf volume of Emily Dickinson's poetry with Olivia's name engraved on the cover, and with a silk bookmark at one of Emily's poems to her Susie. And after exchanging gifts, they could snuggle up and read together in front of the crackling fire.

*dreamy sigh*

Re: Poetry
I did not end up using your wonderful suggestion but thanks for sharing it! I hope you enjoy the story when you read it...

Yes, it was. But leave it to my gf to make the perfect suggestion as an off the cuff comment, thereby not only fixing my current dilemma but also a dilemma in a future story I wasn't even aware I had yet!

She rocks!

And yes, if this story hadn't been set in Christmas 2006, the iPhone would have been tempting... :)
