Today's Example of My Complete and Total Geekdom
Okay, so you know that a) I've been downloading a lot of music lately and b) that I collect versions of certain songs.

One song that I am collecting versions of is Jolene, by Dolly Parton. Yes. You read it right.

I've loved the song since I was a kid. I cannot explain it to you so don't ask me why.

However, when I was around 12 or so, MTV ran a cover of it by a band called Strawberry Switchblade, and ever since then I have been hunting different versions of the song.

And lo, through the miracle of the Internet (thank you, Al Gore. *snort*), I am now in posession of TWELVE versions of Jolene, including one duet between Dolly Parton and Melissa Etheridge! (I'm hoping for thirteen shortly but for some reason Olivia Newton-John's version is taking it's sweet time to download.)

So, anyway, now when people ask me if I collect anything, this is the list I can give them:

1) Bladed weapons
2) Flutes, Ocarinas, Recorders
3) Things with bees on them
4) Unusual names
5) Versions of the song Jolene

Ta Da!

All this can be yours for the low, low price of $19.95 and whatever coolness you might have had.

This just in: It's now 13 versions with the Olivia Newton-John that just finished downloading. :D

Update! I am up to 14 versions with a Sisters of Mercy cover that quite honestly sucks, but there you have it.

Okay, this is just getting sad. I now have 16 versions of Jolene. The two newest are a six-minute dance mix by One Dove and a Bluegrass version by Rhonda Vincent. Do not listen to them back to back if you can help it.

I have two versions of "Cry" on my computer: Faith Hill's and Angie Aparo's. I'm still not sure which one I like better. ;)

;) Ugh. Choosing my favorite of the Jolene's is tough. I like the Sherrie Austin one and the Dolly/Melissa Etheridge one is fun for sheer novelty value... Grr.... So.hard.to.choose...

But it is definitely NOT the Paula Cole one. For some reason she barks like a rabid dog between verses. It's quite disturbing.

Angie Aparo's. Faith Hill bores me, but Angie has an awesome voice. I love all three of his cds :D

Ohhh yes. White Stripes, Strawberry Switchblade, Mindy Smith, Sherrie Austin, Reba McEntire, Tone Damli Aaberge (American Idol 2005), Natalie Merchant, Paula Cole, Olivia Newton-John, Queen Adreena, DP, DP & Melissa Etheridge, Deine Lakaien, and several others I cannot verify yet as I haven't heard them. :D

I am the Jolene freak. LOL

You collect bladed weapons?! That's so cool.

Olivia Newton-John is love. Jolene is a good song. I most recently was subjected to the White Stripes version.

Yeah, that's not my favorite one but count yourself lucky you haven't heard the Paula Cole version yet. I mean, barking like a rabid dog might be okay for some song, somewhere...but not for Jolene! Grrrr...

Oh, and yes, I do collect bladed weapons. I have a variety of daggers, a double headed axe, and my very own Klingon bat'leth. :D I haven't been able to find the perfect sword yet so I don't have one of those. I'm very picky. Last year I ogled a pike axe, which I would love.

Yeah, I am a RenFaire geek too. My geekdom really knows no bounds.

oh that's right, i still have to take pix of my collection for you... :D maybe i can do that soon...

your bat'let would turn my bat'let into kindling, but hey, it looks good on the headboard! LOL
