"Cold", a pre-review
I'm going to need a couple of days on the full review but, in honor of the Limer Goddess and her last episode, there will be one last SVU review for your pleasure.

In the meantime, I give you this pre-review, cut for possible spoilers.

So, honestly? The best line of the entire episode has to be:

Fin [to Elliot]: "...but you will still be a rat bastard tomorrow and nothing you can say will ever change that."

And I admit it has been a while since I've watched regularly but has Chester Lake always been so surly and snarly? Or was that just for tonight's production of "Spot The Martyr!"? (He's been taking lessons from Liv, hasn't he? It shows.)

And oh, Judge Donnelly, it is a good thing you were sitting for that little talk with Casey because you did not have a leg to stand on for that little speech! Do the words "ex parte communication" mean anything to you? Yeah. Thought so. You and your thin little lips are dismissed. Go fall on a rusty sword. Twice. Kthx.

Twoodles, darlings!

Well... It could have been worse, that's for sure. She wore the Goliath Purple shirt from when she subpoenaed Donald Rumsfeld in "Goliath" but it had no power anymore. It was...disillusioning. But Diane did a stunning job and I'm glad I watched it. If that helps...

i never got much of a feel for mr lake because he was somewhat monosyllabic or invisible... but he didn't seem out of character for me. a loner, as always. hanging casey out to dry sucked though.

Yeah. For some very tangible reasons (see full review just posted) the hanging out to dry of Casey should never have happened.

I have to admit that I'm beyond pissed about that episode. The fact that Alex goes out in this blaze of glory (twice), and Casey goes out looking like she let everything get to her & failed at her job. I'm happy to have my Tuesday nights back.

I know. Hopefully my review will at least make you laugh. ;)

Now that I have actually seen the episode, I have to say that, while it made for compelling enough viewing at the time, in retrospect I wish it had been done differently. It's better than I thought it would be, though. (Meaning I don't regret not having dedicated the 42:49 minutes to drowning myself in episodes of South of Nowhere)

On the bright side, I don't think I've ever seen Diane Neal looking more beautiful than in that final scene.

She was so very beautiful throughout, but yes, that final scene was quite well done. Considering.

Baha. I laugh. At your comments on Chester and Liz. But yeah, his character was always a bit wonky, didn't you think? The way he always popped up EVERY. TIME. they needed to know something, some tiny detail, about the city? And his excuse was being an insomniac and walking the streets every night and his family being steel workers or... or... something else? I mean GOD. He's a plot device!

I have to admit that I had only seen part of one episode with Chester Lake prior to "Cold". I had given up on SVU after most of 7th season. I refused to watch on the basis that it no longer had anything to do with its primary purpose, i.e. a procedural about sex crimes, and became a ego show for Mariska and Chris.

Glad I made you laugh!
