Ok--We're Caught Up Now...And We Have a Theory
So Tiff (piekid) and I finally sat down today and watched the four Criminal Minds episodes we've missed since the whole JJ/pregnancy debacle began and, well, we

spent the greater part of an hour advancing the final photo montage and explosion of the SUV frame by frame and we have come to some conclusions (okay, call them working theories) about who might possibly be in the SUV that goes kablooie.

First, let me assure every single Paget fan that it is not Emily. The back door on her SUV is a single, side-hinged door with the license plate in the center. The exploding vehicle's back doors were a pair of side-hinged doors that met in the middle, right where the license plate was on Emily's vehicle. Not to mention, the tail lights on Emily's vehicle in no way matched those on the exploding vehicle. You probably all already knew all this, but we felt compelled to point that out.

So, we narrowed it down from there to either Derek's SUV or Rossi's. The exploding SUV had roof rack rails going in two directions, from what we could see. Two front-to-back rails and at least one side-to-side rail. Garcia's SUV had flares, not a roof rack; JJ's had nothing on top; and Reid's had only front-to-back rails (that we could see).

Now, assuming that the exploding SUV does, in fact, hold one of the BAU, that leaves Rossi or Morgan.

This is piekid's theory:

Killing Morgan advances no plot point whatsoever. In fact, it absolutely makes no sense knowing what we know about Kate Joyner's predicament. It doesn't solve her problem at all. And it makes no sense to insert her so heavily into the process in this case or to pit her against Morgan if they were just going to kill Morgan off. However, killing Rossi opens up a high level space in the BAU for Kate. And they've solved Rossi's one haunting case--really, does everyone have one of these?--so that frees him up for death. It adds more ridiculous sexual tension (Hotch and Haley 2.0), it adds more professional tension since they've completely done away with Erin Strauss, and it keeps Morgan on the team.

The only hole in this theory is the fact that Kate Joyner is not a profiler (right?), which is bothering piekid something fierce...

So? What do you think? Anyone?

Gonna get some leftovers now...

Continuity being what it is, I think there's room for it being anyone. My personal theory is that it was Will and JJ's SUV and that Will is killed and JJ is left in a coma and loses the baby. That allows for her real-life pregnancy to be less of an issue if she's in a hospital bed for a few eps. It also clears up the whole Will and a baby issue for future seasons...

That would be nice, wouldn't it?

I'm actually just starting season 3 right now (and therefore have no idea what about 85% of this post is about), but I'm glad you've surmised that Emily isn't dead. ;)
