File Under: "Gee, I am NOT Surprised"
Well, dear readers, the SVU Survivor Game is over on the TWoP forums.

I'll give you one guess who won.

Hint: Not even on the FREAKIN' show anymore.

It was a shorter battle for the top than I expected, frankly. The last two contenders were Alex and Olivia. You would have thought Olivia could last more than a couple of hours against Alex "I'm so pretty and perfect" Cabot, but no. Apparently the Oliska factor and the "Hair Wings of Insanity" were too much for people to handle. (Note: Neither the Oliska factor or the hair wings bother me in the slightest.)

Proving my point that 75% of the opinions over at TWoP are based on entirely superficial and shallow crap and that, honestly, doesn't impress me. (Note to You-Know-Who-You-Are: I am not including you in this statement as you have assured me of your "clear and compelling" reasons for despising Casey/Diane Neal. While I probably would not agree with them if I knew what they were, I am loathe to have you think that I am including you in the above statement.)

So Alex won. And there was much rejoicing. Huzzah.

Now I am sure that we're going to have to sit through x number of posts on the forum from Cabot Cheerleaders who will point out that she's the perfect ADA, should never have left in the first place, and, by the way, that Casey freak is a walking nightmare.

Sigh...

Now, please, don't misunderstand me. I loved Alex Cabot when she was on the show. I think SM did a bang up job with the character and--although I personally think her husband is an unattractive little troll--I wish SM nothing but the best in her life and her career. I was an A/O devotee and I have written/still write A/O fic. I just happen to believe that it is possible for Olivia to move on and that she can do so with Casey.

Yes, Loss was a crushing blow. Yes, Alex was a wonderful character. But I don't think that my love and appreciation for one character should influence my love and appreciation for another character.

For example, did I hate Kennedy on BtVS just because she "replaced" Tara with Willow? Absolutely not!

What, was Willow supposed to pine away for the rest of her life for the love she lost? No! She did exactly what I hoped she would. She mourned, she kicked some ass, and then she moved on with her life, finding love again.

And though that was a canon example, I believe the same for Olivia in the little subtexty world I have placed her in.

Am I upset with A/Oers? No! Please, write A/O all day long! I love A/O!

Am I upset with people who prefer Alex to Casey? Not at all. To each his/her own.

Am I upset with Casey bashers? That depends. Are they bashing her for ridiculous things, like lurching or wearing lime green on the show? Are they comparing her to Alex and deciding she comes up short because she isn't like her? Then yes, I am upset with Casey bashers.

Those of you who hate Casey are absolutely entitled to your opinions about her. I just think it is immature to call her things like "cockroach" or "the fungus that just won't die". I don't like Elliot but the worst I have ever called him on a public forum is "UnStabler" because I know that there are others who probably do like him and I don't want to ruffle their feathers.

I did use some choice Shakespearean insults to insult Alex on the SVU Survivor board but only because I was tired of all the Casey bashing. And the worst one I used was "Thou art a surly, sheep-biting strumpet!"

My point is, there are better ways to get your point across.

Anyway, that's my Alex/Casey rant for the evening. I'll go listen to my Mood_Rave music and throw myself into something that isn't this rant now. ;)

Twoodles.

First of all TWoP is crazy and I thank the lord that I no longer spend hours over at that forum. It lost the allure of true discussion a long time ago.

Now, I agree with most of what you ranted about except for the fact that I really didn't like Kennedy. Then again, not for replacing Tara, but just because I straight didn't like her. She rubbed me the wrong way all over the place.

On another note, didn somebody really call Casey "the fungus that just won't die?"

Anyway, as an all things Alex Cabot obsessor I hated Casey when she first came on the show. As a result of my grief I was known lash out against her character, albeit I never called her a fungus. Thankfully as the years went on I got over my initial hatred. Actually, it didn't take very long. After Abomination I began to respect her as Alex's replacement. Now I hold little respect for outright Casey-bashers. If you can back up your hatred, that's another story, but if your only reason is that Alex Cabot is amazing, while true, that's not a reason to hate someone who replaced her on the show.

However, I must sympathize with Alex Cabot lovers because, frankly, I just love her so much. And in my world, Olivia will either pine away for teh Alex forever or find her secret WPP location and live happily ever after. But I live in idealized fandom and have no problem accept C/O. Plus I'm regretfully learning to love Casey. It's scary. I've come so far...sigh...

Anywho, nice rant, enjoyed it. You rock. Check you later.

Thank you, dear.

See, like I said, if a person just doesn't like a character (like you and Kennedy), that's one thing. By all means. Have at it. But if the only reason is because you loved the other character (in this case, Tara) so much you can't imagine Willow with anyone else...well, I'm just for giving people a chance, that's all.

And for those A/Oers who adore adore adore A/O and can't imagine Liv with anyone but the owner of the Hot Glasses of Power and Justice, rock on! I love A/O too. But I also love C/O, mainly because I identify much more easily with Casey than with Alex. That's a personal preference, though, and I recognize that others don't agree with it.

Oi...okay, getting off my Casey Rocks Soapbox now. LOL

I am shocked--SHOCKED--that she won! Oh, wait...

I've weaned myself off those forums quite well and now I only read the fanfic thread. But even that's starting to get old because nothing's "good" unless it's A/O or unless the author posts there. Meh.

But I just want to say that I agree with your entire post. Sure, if you have a legitimate valid reason for not liking Casey/Diane, fine. Hell, even if you DON'T have a legitimate, valid reason for not liking her, that's fine. I mean, I dislike Patricia Heaton and I really don't quite know why. But then again, I don't sit there and call her every name under the sun.

But I really wish they would tone down the viciousness. It's rather unbecoming of them as a group and I'm sure it's pretty hurtful to Diane.

I agree. What bothers me is that they make assumptions about Diane and/or her fans too. Not.cool. I mean, yeah, I've said SM is too thin but dammit, that's not an assumption. A two-year-old could see that.

I've actually begun a hesitant push for a round two of SVU Survivor, with added characters this time. Partially to see if she wins twice. Cuz if she does, well, that would be rather interesting in my book.

Yeah, I'm nuts. But you all knew that. ;)

I like Alex, really I do. On the show, I squee when she does neat things like say the provocative theory line almost as much as I squee when Olivia tears down doors with her bare hands. (NOTHING is as hot as that.) But online? I cannot stand her. She's toofucking perfect pretty princess to everyone at TWoP. Too bad I can't get online much or I'd've voted her down more.

I like Alex too. When she sits on the edge of Cragen's desk and tells the rat squad to "Consider yourselves updated." When she goes into Canadian court to tell them that in fact, the NY DA is only going to charge that serial killer with theft of an item worth less than $5000, prompting one of the honorable judges to throw the defense attorney's "I refuse to speculate..." line right back at him. Classic!

And you are right. NOTHING is as hot as watching Olivia tearing down doors with her bare hands. :D

And I agree with you, Alex is overhyped at TWoP. But I knew that before I went in. I just didn't expect the Casey-bashing to be so vitriolic.

SVU Survival Game? Is that something to do with one of those lowest common denominator tv programs? Okay, so I've no idea what it is, and therefore how Alex won, so I guess I can't comment on that bit *g*.

I must say that I hated Willow/Kennedy, mainly because if felt far too soon after Tara, although I didn't particularly dislike Kennedy -- although if they wanted a Faith-alike, why not go the whole hog and just put Willow with the real Faith?

Hmm, I'm trying to think if I had a point when I started typing, but if I did it eludes me now.

Oh, except that I actually rather like the fact Casey lurches... it's funny and kind of cute, in a dorky kind of way. I just wish I could find someone to pair her with, so I could use it in a fic.
seftiri: DN2seftiri on August 8th, 2005 05:04 am (UTC)
I would be interested in reading that lurching fic. Why not pair her with Mary Conway-Clark? That ex-judge wanted in Casey's pants so bad, she practically had it written on her forehead. ;)
