A C/O Drabble
Hi guys, I missed the deadline for this drabble I was working on so I thought I would post it here instead.

Since I don't have to worry about word counts now (YES!), I will add back all the little bits that make it a story. :)

It was for the thursday100 Technology challenge but I missed the deadline. Oooops!

When All Else Fails

by DiNovia

The musty file morgue in the basement at One HP always creeped Olivia Benson out. It was shadowy, spooky, almost preternaturally quiet, and it had that 'old lady house' smell that came with aging paper and leather goods. Like ancient law books and decades old files, for instance.

Olivia was looking for Casey Novak, ADA, and luckily, she wasn't hard to find. She would be the one sitting at a long wooden table, pounding on a large putty colored box, and muttering curses under her breath.

"Casey?" One dubious eyebrow rose over Liv's earth-toned eyes.

Casey's head whipped around and desperate green eyes locked with the detective's. "Oh, thank God. Please tell me you can work this useless piece of crap!" She thumped the box one more time and glared at it menacingly. Obviously, they weren't friends.

Olivia smirked. "A microfiche machine? What, no microscope as a kid?"

Casey rose out of the chair she had claimed and gestured for Liv to sit down. "No," she replied archly. "I was not a science geek."

The dark-haired detective took the offered seat and began examining the box. "Well, I know for a fact you did not have a 'Cut and Style' Barbie head, so what did you have?" She found and flipped a switch, gratified when the machine came to life with a whirring hum and a fuzzy blue light.

Casey narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. "Very funny," she groused. "And if you must know, I had an Easy Bake Oven."

Olivia's hands stilled on the plate lever and she turned incredulous eyes up to the young attorney.

"Easy Bake Oven," she repeated, her voice curiously void of inflection.

"Yes." Casey's stance became slightly defensive. "So?"

A slow, almost decadent grin stole across Olivia's features. "So..." she said lowly. "So, if I'm nice to you and help you with this machine, there's a possibility I could score some, say, sweet rolls?"

Casey's eyes danced.

"Maybe," she said, non-committally. "Traditional sweet rolls or...?" She intentionally let the question hang. She wasn't sure how'd she feel if Liv said she wanted some sort of bizarre sweet roll concoction.

"With the traditional pecans, please. And none of that freaky shit that everyone seems to put in them these days," clarified the older woman. "I'm an old-fashioned kinda girl."

Casey bit her lip. She walked slowly up next to the detective and leaned over, her full lips coming to rest near a sensitive ear.

"Does that mean I can't serve them to you in bed, Detective?" she growled huskily.

Liv's eyes fluttered closed for a moment and then she whirled around and cupped Casey's face in her warm hands. She kissed the younger woman senseless then winked at her when they parted.

"I'm not that old-fashioned, Counselor," she grinned.

Casey just managed to mumble "Good to know" before Liv captured her lips in another delectable kiss.

Maybe it's a good thing I missed the deadline, eh? Now I can't imagine this being told correctly in just 100 words (or 112, actually, which was my final count).

Now I know why drabbles are so hard for me. I need words... I need to swim in them. Cutting out words is like trying peel the banana off the banana seeds.

how's this for blonde? i didn't even know bananas had seeds LOL i mean, i knew... how else do they grow? but i never thought of the seeds as being a part of what one eats... LOLOL

but yes, i agree. stories should have words. glorious, filling, evocative and descriptive words... :D after all, how else do you paint the pictures?
