Tropical Storm Rita has formed off the Keys.

Predicted to become a hurricane that will slide over the panhandle and then slam into the Western Gulf Coast. You know, where all the evacuees from New Orleans, Mississippi and Alabama went?

Our weather guy actually looked dumbfounded. And pale.

Are you in the Western Gulf or in FL? Oh, I hope not. :(

Sweet home Alabama .. but luckily not on the gulf coast. More upstate. We end up getting the dredges of the hurricanes after its done its worst, and a few of the tornadoes they spawn.

Sounds like us. You couldn't pay me to live anywhere on the NC coast. Particularly on that narrow strip of sand they call the Outerbanks. They should just call it Soon to be Underwater Again.

Durham is more toward the center of the state so we get rain/hail/tornadoes but not usually devastation.
