A Meme and Other Things...
Yay!  I was tagged by my sweetie for this one!

Name ten of life's simple pleasures that you like most, then pick ten people to do the same. Try to be original and creative, and not use things that someone else has already listed.

In no particular order...

1.  Lying in a hammock, dozing, on a nice Fall day.  Or lying on a rock, dozing, on a nice Fall day.  Or lying on a blanket under a tree, dozing, on a nice Fall day.  Okay, really, I guess dozing outside on a nice Fall day.  You can pick the medium you like.

2.  Holding a sleeping baby.

3.  Lying wrapped around someone I love, tangled in clean white sheets.  Preferably under soft Summer breezes in the cool dawn or under hot, lazy Summer afternoon breezes just before a thunderstorm.

Should I be worried that the first three have to do with sleeping in some way?  I'm getting old, aren't I?

4.  Reading to a child.

5.  Green olives stuffed with feta cheese.

6.  A movie matinée in the middle of a weekday--with popcorn, Pepsi, JuJuBes, and someone to hold hands with.

7.  Carnations.  Purple ones are my new favorite.  ;)

8.  Waking up naturally--no alarm, no phones ringing, no nightmares.  And having her be the first thought in my mind.

9.  Ice cold tonic water, ice, freshly sliced, ripe, juicy limes, and a splash or two of gin.

10.  The ten seconds right before the curtain goes up and the show starts.  Those are the most potent, most wonderful, most amazing ten seconds ever.  ...  Okay, not ever.  But they're up there.  They are.

As for tagging, I tag whoever would like to do this.  And I warn you.  It will take a while to do.  ;)

Other news, though.  I got a job!!

It's 20 hours a week to start, but it is working for a wonderful group of people and in a program I can get behind because it's about helping people.  And my schedule is Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for 7 hours, 7 hours, and 6 hours respectively.

Can you see my smile?

Can you?

Let's review.  I have Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays off.  For at least three months (until the job goes full-time).  Which means, for those of you keeping score, I have the perfect travel time for going to Vegas to see Tiff.  :D

Also, I'm still making cash babysitting and house-sitting (I got a house-sitting job for next week, even!) and I'm still working on the kids books, of course.  Heck, I might see if I can get a few Tarot customers again.  That should more than make up for the 20 hour work weeks for the first couple of months.

Thank you all for all your good wishes!  You guys are the best and I totally believe you have helped turn my employment dreams into a reality.  :D

Now for the funny story of the evening...

I sat for Zoe and Gabriel this afternoon and Justin and Lisa invited me to stay for dinner, which I eagerly did.  (My brother is a great cook!)  So I was holding Gabriel and Justin was bringing food to the table.  I decided to go ahead and sit down since I had already grabbed my glass of water from the living room and Justin had already placed my prosciutto and melon in front of my chair.  So I gingerly lowered myself to the chair because lately their dining room chairs have been wobbly and unreliable.  No sooner did my ass hit the chair than the chair disintegrated.  Literally, it simply fell apart underneath me and I headed for the floor.  But I still had the baby in my arms and in an effort to keep him from hitting the ground or the edge of the table, I lifted him over my head.

My sister-in-law screamed and lunged for Gabriel while I shouted "I've got him!  He's okay!"  My brother came around the counter to help and Zoe...dear, sweet Zoe...just stared at us all with wide, frightened blue eyes.

Lisa got Gabriel who apparently looked very comically confused by his predicament.  Justin hauled me up off the floor, then angrily shoved what was left of the chair across the dining room and got me a new chair.  Zoe hesitantly came to the table, glaring at her chair as if waiting for it to fall apart.

All in all, the most exciting pre-dinner floor show I've ever seen.

And before you all start asking, this is the third of four chairs to have done this in the last week.  I think the wood glue...expired?  Does wood glue expire?  I have no idea.  But it has been just about ten years since the set was purchased and something is definitely wrong with those chairs.  O_o

Anyway...

Things, they are a changin' around here!

And for the better!

;)

Twoodles.

Would you mind sharing a little of that job-getting mojo with me? Please...?
seftiri: All Smilesseftiri on March 21st, 2006 05:01 pm (UTC)
I send you all good thoughts and as much of that job-getting mojo as you can handle! :D
Katie: Do *not* laughoracledelphi617 on March 21st, 2006 06:01 am (UTC)
Congrats on the jobliness! Seriously, if I'd sent you any more good mojo, I'd have had nothing left for myself. :)

And the chair story made me laugh, which was definitely needed on this Monday. Thank you for sharing - I've had that happen to me in the past (although, no baby involved).
seftiri: iDoryseftiri on March 21st, 2006 05:04 pm (UTC)
::hugs you::

Thank you, hon! I appreciate the many, many good vibes.

As for the chair story, glad it made you laugh! Hope your Tuesday is better than your Monday...

Everything okay?

Ask me again Thursday night. ;)

Mostly I'm having an existential crisis - you know, do I really belong in grad school/am I screwing up my life by being here/etc...
seftiri: Fried Green Tomatoesseftiri on March 21st, 2006 05:25 pm (UTC)
Oh, ick. Existential crises suck...

I hope yours is resolved quickly. :D

::hugs you::

Sweetie, I hope you guys get some more help or something...

Please take care of yourself...
Tiffany: iaessedaipiekid on March 22nd, 2006 08:34 pm (UTC)
:D

I'm fine.

So white sheets, huh? What about orange or blue? They acceptable? ;)

seftiri: iDoryseftiri on March 22nd, 2006 09:06 pm (UTC)
Orange and/or blue are quite acceptable... How do you feel about pale green sheets? ;)
Tiffany: tlg hint of limepiekid on March 22nd, 2006 09:45 pm (UTC)
Pale green, eh? I expect nothing different, so that's better than fine with me. :D

And I agree with you on #6-8. ;) Especially the Pepsi part. LOL
seftiri: Lime Crimeseftiri on March 22nd, 2006 09:53 pm (UTC)
Now why did I think you might agree with the Pepsi part? ;)

Tiffany: pepsipiekid on March 22nd, 2006 09:58 pm (UTC)
That's a good question.

Could I be... predictable?!?!

::gasp::
seftiri: O_oseftiri on March 22nd, 2006 10:21 pm (UTC)
You?? Predictable??

NEVER!

;)

Major congrats on getting the job!!!! I'm thrilled to hear things are starting to shift your way. *does a little happy dance for you* Cheffy & I are heading to Vegas tomorrow for a wedding. You're more then welcome to stash away in our luggage. ;)

*sighs as her inner butch sneaks out* Wood glue will go brittle over time. People will often use grabber screws to reinforce the joint. It could be that, or the chairs are haunted. XD

The dinner show with your family sounds much more amusing then any I've had with my own! Happy to hear everyone is ok.
seftiri: Mar Joyful Heartseftiri on March 21st, 2006 06:27 pm (UTC)
Thank you! And thank you for the offer of stowing away in your luggage but I can't! Still waiting to hear from HR regarding the job! I do appreciate the offer, though. ;)

It's gotta be the wood glue has gone brittle. LOL Either that or Gabriel has put on some weight! LOL

Have fun on your trip! I am totally jealous!!
froggumzfroggumz on March 21st, 2006 06:33 pm (UTC)
They do say that kids grow up fast these days! LOL!

And Thanks! We've been looking forward to getting the hell out of Dodge for awhile now, the wedding is just a good excuse.

Yay, congratulations!

Yipes. That dinner show is definitely more amusing than any I've ever experienced. (And I've endured some pretty amusing/scary/downright weird ones.) Good that everyone's okay, though.

I'd say more, but... you know... school... luck-pushing big time now. >_> Yep.

Congrats again on the job.
seftiri: DiMar Friend Loveseftiri on March 22nd, 2006 03:51 pm (UTC)
Thanks sweetie! :D

And yes, everyone is okay. In fact, my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew are on their way to where? To VEGAS, where I most want to be at the moment.

So everyone is just fine. Grr....

;)

Gah, I think that goes under the heading of "very unfair".

You'll get there eventually, though.
seftiri: Vampyr Dianeseftiri on March 22nd, 2006 04:09 pm (UTC)
Yes, I will. :D I will, indeed.

Is that Juliet Landau???

God, I just loved Dru...

She was the perfect Whack Vampiregrrl! :D

And her in red?? ::drools::
Shut up and smile: Dru sleevemorningafter2 on March 22nd, 2006 04:13 pm (UTC)
Yes! It's Juliet Landau. She's on her way to hijacking all my icon space. Big fan.

I loved Dru as well. Perfect indeed. *g*

She is very drool-worthy in red, isn't she?

Ah! Congrats on the job-ishness! And I have to say that the chair story totally was the best thing I've heard all day -- which is a pretty big compliment considering my car tried to kill me this morning ;)

Now this job-ishness best not interfere with your reviewing and fic'ing duties or you'll have a mob of angry limers ;) But yay for things that fund the lime!
seftiri: Limers Ruleseftiri on March 22nd, 2006 03:52 pm (UTC)
Don't worry. I don't suppose the job will interfere overmuch with my writing and/or reviewing. LOL

Thanks for the congrats!

And definitely yay for things that fund the lime! ;)
