This year I am thankful for...

For a wonderful, sweet, beautiful woman who loves me as much as I love her, who supports my dreams and aspirations, and who believes in me. I am so lucky to have found her and luckier still that she chose me when she could have done so much better.

For a family whose generosity and caring and support just simply does not end. My parents are wonderful souls who do not understand the concepts of selfishness or bigotry or hate. They taught my brother and I the difference between right and wrong, the value of everything and everyone around us, and most importantly, they taught us how to be good and contributing human beings.

For friends who are there even when I am not, or am bad at keeping touch, or am away for long periods of time because of my health. When connecting again feels like there was never any distance, that is true friendship, and I truly value the kindness and support I receive on a daily basis from my friends, even if I am unable always to express it.

For work that is rewarding, creative, socially important, and caring in a world where so much work is not any of those things.

For healthcare benefits, even if I have to pay for them myself.

For a niece and nephew whose very existence shines light into my life and my soul. Just thinking about how much I love and cherish these children brings tears into my eyes. And to see my brother with them...it is so wonderful to see love that works.

For pain medication, even if it isn't working very well.

For a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate, because it's time to change this country around.

For my life, because two years ago it wasn't certain that I could or would continue with it.

For the dedicated people who I work with on a daily basis who genuinely care about their patients and their lives and who strive to make healthcare a collaborative endeavor rather than an authoritarian tyranny. I went into this job expecting to find doctors with ego problems and have instead found a collection of healthcare providers with an outstanding philosophy and a deep sense of compassion.

For our police, fire, and military personnel, who give of their time, their skills, and their very lives to protect and serve every community.

For the scents and sights of Autumn, which do more to soothe my mind and soul than many other things.

And finally for the strength to be true to myself, my ideals, and my principles.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, my friends. I hope your day is happy, healthy, and filled with love, wherever you are.

And we're very grateful for you...
I'm so glad to have you in my life.

And your girlfriend? Not sure how she could do better, sweetie. Not because she's not smokin' hot and all that, but because you're the best of the best. I'll agree, though, that she's darn smart for figuring it out! :)
